Dominican Learning Network
Overview
The Ohio Dominican University network, the Dominican Learning Network (DLN), extends to all academic buildings and residence halls on our main campus and remote site locations. In total, there are over 80 lab computers and 50 common area PC's connected to our network. Fiber optic cables connect the various buildings and we have a high-speed (fractional T1) connection to the Internet. You can access the Internet from any computer lab on campus, or a computer in your room that has been connected to the campus network, allowing convenient access to on-line services and information.
Dominican Learning Network
A connection to the DLN provides you with a direct high-speed connection to the campus network from either residence hall, Erskine Hall, Alumni Hall, the Spangler Learning Center, St. Alberts Hall, Wherle Hall, and both remote site locations (Tuttle Crossing and Easton). Once a network connection is established, you can access e-mail, the library databases and file servers, as well as have full access to the Internet via Internet Explorer.
The DLN is offered to our students to enrich the educational experience. We cannot, and do not, guarantee that every student-owned computer will be able to connect successfully to the DLN. Nor are we able to guarantee the network will be accessible at all times. We will make a reasonable effort to respond to requests for assistance in getting student computers connected to our network, as described in our Terms of Service document.

If your computer does not meet the above minimum requirements, the Information Services staff (including the Computer Helpdesk) is not obligated to provide connection support to the DLN.
If you intend to connect your computer to the DLN, we strongly recommend that you purchase a computer that is designated "network ready." If your computer is not network ready, you may experience trouble accessing some future network-based services. Many low-end home computers that are designed for use on a network will not run some of the software necessary to connect to the University's file services. If this is an important service for you, please be sure to purchase a computer that is "network ready." Please visit our ODU/IBM product page if you are interested in purchasing a new computer.
Network Interface Card (NIC)
For a computer to be connected to the DLN, it must have a 10/100 BaseT NIC and driver software installed , as well as a network cable. Many new computers come with a 10/100 BaseT NIC already installed. f your computer does not have a NIC, you must purchase one from a computer manufacturer or retailer. hile we cannot guarantee it, most NIC's should work.
